Conrad Hotel Lobby Floor

While the dynamic stone patterned floor at the Conrad Hilton Hotel was architect specified, it was a challenging floor to produce and install. CAD drawings were produced to quantify the stone material required and also to cut the stone to size. Three stones were specified: Botticino, a beige Italian marble, Rosso Verona, a red Italian marble, and Noir St Laurent, a black marble from France.

The stone pattern was comprised of custom curved shapes and sizes with fragile points and corners. Each piece was cut and laminated to an identical piece of travertine limestone for stability, then numbered in sequence as cut from the quarry to preserve natural shading and to identify it’s position in the floor pattern. The numbered custom stone shapes and sizes were assembled and installed from the center out like a giant jigsaw puzzle set on a mud bed.
