Over twenty years ago, Blakley’s made a simple pledge --
Keep as much as possible out of our landfills
Recycle whenever possible.
Each month Blakley’s keeps 20,000 pounds of construction debris out of our landfills. We recycle enough to fill three two-car garages each day. Despite the cost of balers, shredding machines, shipping and the labor to make it all happen, Blakley’s is committed to recycling as much material as possible. Each day our warehouse personnel shred and bale the daily delivery of used carpet and pad materials that are returned by our commercial flooring division for recycling. We continue to look for new ways to recycle and have added wooden skids, plastic carpet wrap, cardboard carpet tubes and vinyl to our list.
Our bigger flooring projects require a bigger effort. A tear-out the size of an office building, school or sports arena requires that a dumpster be placed onsite. Once filled with old carpet and padding, the dumpster is transported to a carpet recycling facility. There the yarn is separated from the backing, baled and distributed to a variety of companies that either recycle the material into a new product or use it as waste energy.
Our partners in recycling guarantee that none of the carpet received will enter a landfill.
Blakley's supports LEED (LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND DESIGN) Projects and LEED Compliant Projects.
